Adjusting your screen for the best display
Higher the better:
The higher you set your resolution the more detail you can view. For example a screen size of 1024x768 cannot show as much detail as a screen size with a higher resolution of 1600x1200.

Setting your Resolution:
To adjust your display settings minimize everything so you can see the desktop. Right click and select properties from the menu. From there you can click on the tab "Display". Ajust the slider bar to the right to increase your resolution, once you have adjusted it select the apply button. Your screen resolution will change and Windows should prompt you if you want to keep the settings. Note: Your display will only show the resolutions supported by your graphics card.

Step 1: Brightness

Ajust your monitors brightness so you can see each of the squares above, if you cannot see each of the blocks just calibrate it so you can see as many as possibe. If the blocks have a color tint, you can correct problem by calibrating monitor gamma for each color channel individually.

Step 2: Gamma

Now we need to adjust your gamma, adjust your gamma so the the letter C blends in with the background. You will need to step about 10 feet from your screen. Most monitors are configured to display C through F, anywhere in this range is acceptable. For best results adjust the gamma so you can see the most boxes in Step 1 and in the range of C-F on the above scale.

Step 3: Contrast

Next you will want to adjust your contrast so you see a smooth transition from color to color in the image above. The color scale begins with red and ends with red. If you see a pixelated view then you may need to increase the resolution from 8 to 16 or to 32 bit. This is the amount of colors your display is capable of viewing, your monitor must be able to support the depth provided by your video card.

And you are done! - Your monitor should be set up for the best display.

To ensure the best picture!
Make sure when you complete the three steps that you run through them one more time, the best picture will be obtained if you can create the best balance of each element.
